Śląsk was founded in 1947 as a military club and named KS Pionier Wrocław. Club’s name was changed several times (Podchorążak, Legia, OWKS, CWKS) till 1955 when the Green-White-Reds from the Oporowska Road started to play as WKS Śląsk Wrocław.

Polish Championship in 1977 was the greatest success in Śląsk’s history and the quarterfinal of the Cup Winners Cup 1976/77 when the club lose against SSC Napoli (0-0 and 0-2). The club has been promoted from the Polish Second League to the Ekstraklasa for the 2008/2009 season.
