Lech Poznań is a Polish football club based in Poznań. The club is named after Lech, the legendary founder of Poland. This name was adopted in 1957 and, though it has become the name by which the club is typically known, was actually only its eighth. The name changes came rapidly but from 1933 onwards tended to be a variation of Kolejowy Klub Sportowy - Railway Sports Club. The club have been associated with the trains ever since and one of their nicknames - Kolejorz - means Railwaymen in the local dialect. Their nickname Pyry is also local dialect, in this case Potatoes as the inhabitants of Poznań and the potato in general is a symbol of Poznań.

Lech originates from the established in 1922 Lutnia Poznań, which since then has changed its name several times. Lutnia means "lute" in Polish and, besides being an instrument was a popular type of choral group in Poland at the time, though its social importance seemed to have gone far beyond singing.

From August 1922 the club played as TS Liga Dębiec, next from 1925 as TS Liga Poznań (Dębiec was merged to Poznań) and KS KPW Liga Poznań (1930-33).

From 1933 until 1994 club has been linked closely to Polish State Railways (PKP). That is why its popular nickname is Kolejorz which means The Railwayman in local slang.

The club's debut in Polish First League took place in March 1948. The brightest era of Lech were the early 1980's and early 1990's. Lech Poznań is the most popular football club in the Greater Poland region.

In may 2006 Amica Sport SSA was merged to Lech and the club this joint was named as KKS Lech Poznań.
