Poland national coach Leo Beenhakker has revealed that misfits Artur Wichniarek and Ireneusz Jelen are still considered for the Bialo-Czerwoni.
In a recent interview, 'Don Leo' has officially admitted that Arminia Bielefeld's Wichniarek and AJ Auxerre's Jelen are still great topics of interests for the national team. "Wichniarek was on my list the whole time. But he must take his own step if he is to return back into the national team. It is the same reason why I cannot recall Radoslaw Sobolewski or Jacek Bak, for they have declared international retirement." admits the Dutchman about Wichniarek, who had announced his retirement from the national team last summer.
'Not so wounded deer'
Another player who has created media stir in not being called up to the national team is Ireneusz Jelen. The Polish winger which has recently returned from a long injury has shown a great deal form in the French Ligue 1, and could prove to be very useful for Beenhakker's White Eagles. "Jelen? Of course I follow him regularly, even if I'm not often at his matches. But I do keep a close eye on his form, as I have my people keep tabs on him." Beenhakker claims about Ireneusz Jelen, who had created controversy during the 2008 UEFA EURO qualifiers when he allegedly declined a call-up. "Fortunately, with Ireneusz it is not the same case as with Wichniarek, because he never officially announced international retirement. So if I come to believe that he deserves a another chance, than I will have no problem in calling him up."
