San Marinese star and legend Andy Selva has declared his team is coming to Poland for their first 3 points of San Marino`s FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
On Wednesday Poland will face off against European minnows, San Marino who will only field 2 professional footballers with the rest of the roster composing of only amateur players. The Italian Isle has yet to win a game this year, with their first and thus far only win at the 65th attempt, was a 1–0 victory over Liechtenstein in a friendly in 2004 courtesy of a fifth minute goal by Andy Selva. Now the Italian born striker believes his side can finally collect their second historic win against a current feeble Polish side. "I have played on the national team for over fifteen years, and have several times already faced Poland. Those were difficult games, but the current Poland is not the same."
Surprise result
"Right now we are in the worst place ranking spot in FIFA history, at spot 201, so every match is difficult. However, this is understandable since many of us are not professionals and have daily jobs to support ourselves. But we are aware of Poland`s poor form after their loss in Belfast. From watching the recording of the game, I`m surprised. Poland`s so called professionals played worse than our amateur players. Tomorrow is the perfect time to set our second win in cement. We came to Poland to win, and I can assure you this is no April Fools joke. " said Selva, who missed a penalty against Fabianski last October in San Marino, where the Poles won 2-0.
Tourists
Most supporters are not aware why the match is taking place in Kielce, and most only assume it is because of the modern stadium and size. In reality, the location was picked more for tourism rather than football purposes. Originally San Marino asked the PZPN to schedule the match in Krakow, as the team planned to go sight seeing after the match. Unfortunately, the Wisla stadium is under renovation so the PZPN relocated the match to the closest suitable stadium to Krakow - Kielce.
