GORZOW, Poland. May 10 (PSN) - GKP Gorzów Wielkopolski has officially withdrew from the 1 Liga, with the match against KSZO Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski the last to be played by the club.

Such a statement made after Saturday's match by GKP coach Krzysztof Pawlak.

As explained by GKP director Mariusz Niewiadomski, due to the stretching for several months of payments to players, the club by the Polish Football Association (PZPN) was forced to terminate their contracts with the Gorzow club.

The crisis in GKP lasts for many months, with the debt only growing. In February, President Sylwester Komisarek resigned from the management of the club and so did other members of the board. The court appointed a few weeks Janusz Szczepanowski as the curator of GKP.

The club's debt now amounts to approximately 2.5 million zł.

So far there has yet appeared sponsor who expressed a desire to save the club. Small contributions from supporters and sympathizers of the team were barely enough for travel and organizing the games. The players themselves were without paid salaries for several months.

Before Christmas, a meeting took place to select a new board, but no one reported a desire to take control of the club. In this situation, the curator shall convene another general meeting at which the club will be put into liquidation and will be a certain way of carrying it out.

"I did not want my work in Gorzow to end like this, but I have to swallow a bitter pill. I thanked the guys now who are leaving, the others will meet on Wednesday or Thursday, and we will summarize the whole situation to them," said Pawlak.
