KRAKOW, Poland. Nov 11 — Wisla Krakow have apparently had enough problems with it's current goal keeping. On Tuesday Brazilian goal keeper Marcelo Moretto joined the Polish club on trial, who not so long ago held the record for letting in the least amount of goals in Europe!
Interestingly, the White Star has once tried to already sign Moretto.
"I remember exactly, he was found for us by our scout Mario Branco. Moretto was inexpensive, but even so the Board would not agree to purchase him. Moments later, he landed at SL Benfica." says former Wisla sporting director Grzegorz Mielcarski.
Moretto in his homeland played professionally since 1998, where he has successful stints in Esporte Clube Sao Jose, Associacao Portuguesa de Desportos, Londrina Esporte Clube, Sport Club do Recife and Brasiliense Futebol Clube.
He continued his career in Europe in 2004 for Felguerias, and a year later moved to Vitoria Setubal. In that club in 2005, Moretto was able to boast the record of fewest goals conceded in relation to the number of minutes played among goalkeepers of all European leagues! And it was not that he warmed the bench as he played 23 matches.
It was then that he fell into the eye of Wisla scout Mario Branco. However, instead of going to Krakow he landed in Lisbon where he signed with local powerhouse Benfica. He made no revolution there. In the 2006/2007 season he played 15 games, and the next season (2007/2008) he was loaned out to AEK Athens, where he made another 15 appearances.
Meanwhile, Wisla Krakow is also testing 20-year-old Norwegian striker Daniel Gall, who is also expected to impress club officials.
