MIJAS, Spain. Jan 21 — Legia Warsaw FC have handed down a trial to Chinese striker Dong Fangzhuo at their pre-season training camp in Spain. The player has an interesting resume, having played for Manchester United, which includes an appearance in the UEFA Champions League.

The 25-year-old currently plays for his home club and Chinese Super League outfit Dalian Shide FC, but not too long ago he was very popular in Europe.

The Red Devils bought him in 2003, perhaps to attract a Chinese fan base to the English club.

However, before the Chinese striker attained the honor to play a game at Old Trafford, he spent four years on loan at Royal Antwerp FC. This is due to the problem that Fangzhuo was unable to obtain a work permit in England.

In the Belgian top flight he was able to fully show his effectiveness upfront, because in 76 games he scored 37 goals.

In 2006 he returned to Manchester and stayed there for two years where he only played three games for the first team, meanwhile spending most of his time in the reserves. Sir Alex Ferguson let him play in the UEFA Champions League encounter against AS Roma.

For the Chinese national team he played 13 times, scoring two goals, one of during the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics.

'Szymkowiak' (nickname given to him by Legia players) is expected to be reinforce the poor Legion offense, if of course he impresses Legia boss Jan Urban.
