LIVERPOOL, England. Jan 22 — Everton FC have confirmed that from June this year they will gain Jan Mucha, who currently defends the colors of Legia Warsaw FC.

Mucha will compete for a place in the Everton goal with Tim Howard, who is currently fighting for the number one role with Carlo Nash who was signed from Wigan Athletic.

The 27-year-old Legia Warsaw keeper has agreed to join the Toffees when his contract runs out in the summer. Mucha is Slovakia’s first choice keeper with 13 caps, and is likely to play for them in this summer’s FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

Previously, the Slovakian international agreed to not extend his contract with the Legion, but would not reveal the name of his new club

"I know I said that I would not go for free, but unfortunately that was not possible," says the highly rated Ekstraklasa goalkeeper.

"The reality is, no one wanted to pay any real money for me. There were a lot of offers, but everyone wanted to take me for free."

"I am in a time of my career where I have to play at a better level, it would be a sin to say no to Everton. However, I have chosen to honor my contract with Legia and only leave once it expires."

Wojciech Kowalewski and Wojciech Szczesny are reported to be possible replacements for Mucha in Legia's goal. Kowalewski is a free agent, and Szczesny would take the move as a loan from Arsenal FC.

The only question is if any of these two can truly replace the best goalkeeper in the Polish Ekstraklasa?

This was a punk ass move he showed no respect for Legia. He said "I have chosen to honor my contract with Legia and only leave once it expires." what does that mean?
Legia would want him to leave before his contract expired because they would get money for him, now they get nothing.
Legia should sit him on the bench for the remainder of the season.
This would be payback for his loyalty.
And if it messed up his chance of playing in the world cup then it would be a plus.

Guys, let's be fair. It's not as if he's Jerzy Dudek who knows that he won't beat out Iker Casillas! Teams in the Premier League generally believe in fair competition and I think Mucha will provide fine competition for Howard. The prospect of two international World Cup keepers at a club trying to improve each other will only be beneficial. He's a hell of a lot better than the journeyman Nash, that's for sure!

Also, it's not really his fault that clubs didn't feel like paying money for him when he'd be out of contract in only a few months. What'd you expect him to do? Sign a new deal and then leave?

Mucha is an idiot for going to Everton.

No way in hell he is going to play over Howard unless Howard breaks his hand or something.

If he went to a side like Stoke City that would've been better.

So let me get this right? Mucha want's to go to England to be a back-up? So this is just for the money because he is not going to beat out Howard for the starting spot in goal. The press in England have made nothing of this as a story because they never rate backups.eaa2h

he says: "he won't leave legia without any money at least for leagia"...than he meets up with some arab owning some english second\third class team and underlines some contract wich is only good for him self and the club doesn't have to pay anything to Legia...MF traidor!

if i would be Mucha ( Fly) i would give my half year earnings to legia otherwise i risk ....to get smaked ,one day , like a fly...

Good for Mucha, glad he will be able to show his talent on a bigger stage. He deserves it and I hope he does well.

Its too bad that Legia could not get anything for him.
