WARSAW, Poland. Jan 31 — One of the biggest names in Slovakian club football may soon be coming from the Corgon Liga to the Polish Ekstraklasa.
KP Polonia Warszawa is ready to move for MFK Kosice's striker Jan Novak. The same player is also a topic of interested for KKS Lech Poznan.
Novak scored three times against AS Roma at the 2009-2010 UEFA Europa League play-off round whereby he showed great performance, evoking interest in both Fulham FC and KKS Lech Poznan. It was assumed Lech would grab the striker first because there was stronger interest in Poznan, rather than in London.
However, KP Polonia Warszawa have now entered the bidding war with Lech for the prized Slovak. MFK Kosice have requested a 1.5 million euro price tag for Novak. Unfortunately for Lech, Polonia is less worried about the high price.
"The price is very high, that is true. But he is a player on Bakero's winter wish list," says a Polonia spokesperson.
Polonia owner Jozef Wojciechowski is anything but short on cash, and is very likely to dig deeper in his pockets to satisfy Spanish coach Jose Maria Bakero - just as long it provides good results for the club.
The capital club have already acquired Tomasz Brzyski (Ruch Chorzow), Janusz Gancarczyk (Slask Wroclaw), and Andreu Guerao Mayoral (Sporting Gijon).
Ruch scorer Andrzej Niedzielan was also very near to a move but decided against it at the last minute. Other players that have been linked with Polonia are Dawid Nowak, Artur Sobiech and Michal Zewłakow.
