WARSAW, Poland. Feb 28 (PS) — In the last match of the 18th round of the Polish Ekstraklasa spring opener KKS Lech Poznan demolished KP Polonia Warszawa 3-0. Thanks to this victory the Kolejorz have reduced their losses in league points to Wisla Krakow and Legia Warsaw FC.
The first goal for Lech fell in the 25 minute. Lech striker Robert Lewandowski finished off a rebound off a blocked free kick taken by Slawomir Peszko.
A few minutes later there was a controversial situation in front of Jasmin Buric's goal line. Janusz Gancarczyk threw himself on the pitch after a foul from Seweryn Gancarczyk. The referee at first ruled a penalty kick, but after a while he ran to consult the decision with his assistant, which he then reversed the decision. Meanwhile after he punished Janusz Gancarczyk with a yellow card.
Lech rookie Tomasz Mikolajczak later topped the victory off with a 3rd goal in the 86 minute with a empty netter.
The Kolejorz are now tied with Ruch Chorzow on league points, at 35 pt. While Legia Warsaw sits in second place at 38 pt, and Wisla remains in first place at 40 pt.
