WARSAW, Poland. Oct 4 (PS) — Legia Warsaw FC may have been a very possible destination for Real Madrid reserve goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek.
The goalkeeping veteran was seeked to join the Polish capital club this past summer but was deemed as too weak.
Unfortunately, that transfer never panned out as the Legia board did not see Dudek as a worthy replacement for the Slovak who transfered to Everton FC.
"I suggested Jerzy Dudek, who recently at the time had his contract ending with Real Madrid, it was said then that it would not be extended. A move like that would be a marketing hit, and the younger goalies could have learned a lot from him. A brand name like Legia with a new stadium he would not have refused. Besides, what harm to ask? But the feedback I got was ... he is too weak?" Bialas says.
Bialas does not want to give the name of the person who seemed to make such an opinion. Legia instead bought unexperienced Croatian U21 Marijan Antolovic for five hundred thousand, who undoubtedly has talent, but at the moment it is nothing but raw talent.
The Polish coach has also disclosed that new Legia coach Maciej Skorza wanted to sign the likes of Michal Zewlakow (now with PGE GKS Belchatow), Mariusz Lewandowski and Ebi Smolarek (now with Polonia Warszawa).

Still, Dudek has only himself to blame for some pretty poor career decisions which impeded his march to usurping Jan Tomaszewski as the country's greatest goalkeeper of all time! He'll instead be remembered as an idiot who wasted the prime years of his talent and ability.
