WARSAW, Poland. May 27 (PSN) - After much hype and anticipation, talks between Michal Żewłakow and Legia Warsaw FC did not fall through.
The reason for this is strictly financial.
The former Polish representative wanted to earn 300,000 euros, the Warsaw club instead offered only 250,000. Meanwhile, in the shadow of these discussions, Kerkyra FC was also trying to talk the player into an agreement.
However, like with Legia, the 13th placed Greek Super League team also could not come to an agreement with the defender, who recently parted Turkish side Ankaragücü in the spring.
Meanwhile, it seems the former Polish captain will also not play in Cyprus. This time his age came into play.
Żewłakow offered his services to the Cypriot league runners, AC Omonia where former Lech striker Hernán Rengifo now plys his trade. But according to Cypriot media, the heads of the club decided not to employ the 102-capped Polish international, who did not even agree to talks after learning of his age.
A move abroad now seems less likely to happen for the experienced defender. It is possible that Żewłakow will very much now stay in Poland. Interested in the player is still Wisła Kraków, who has plans to sign the central defender.
