WARSAW, Poland. Feb 2 (PSN) - Polonia Warszawa are interested in bringing in Polish international Sebastian Boenisch this winter.
However, Polonia owner Jozef Wojciechowski is not one hundred percent sure this deal may fall through.
Boenisch, however, is not very interested in making a switch to play in Poland, as still he intends to fight for a place in the starting team of Werder Bremen. Wojciechowski himself is now realizing that the reality of this transfer may not be possible.
"This is a very real issue. We put the offer on the table, and now we wait. I am very interested in the subject of bringing Sebastian over to Polonia, but I think that there's little chance in that happening at the moment," says Wojciechowski.
The 25-year-old defender has not played for over a year, as he struggled with a knee injury. Now he is playing in the Werder reserves, but according to the assurances of the German club's coaching staff, he should soon return to the first team. Boenisch will then want to take the gauntlet and again fight for a spot in the starting line-up.
Nothing, however, can be excluded. Boenisch is determined to play at the UEFA EURO 2012, and if he does not regularly play, playing in the European championship will be very distant for him.
"Sebastian knows we are interested in him. There is still time in the window for him to change his mind, joining us he will have it much easier to make the EURO team."
The transfer window in Poland lasts until the end of mid February.
