A dismal qualifying campaign for the World Cup saw the 'Biale Orly'win only three matches out of ten, picking up five defeats. It was a shocking performance by the so called best players to represent their nation.

Going into the World Cup qualifiers Poland had been knocked out of the UEFA European Championships in 2008 after only three matches, it was only a repeat of the last two World Cup campaigns which saw Poland win only two games.

Many fans have gotten used to the disappointment but come the European Championships in 2012 it will have to be a different story. If Poland are going to make a statement to the World that they can play football.

Many problems will have to be solved quickly! The national team manager Franciszek Smuda will have a tough job on his hands to develop a team but more importantly to get the needed results!

Being host nations for the 2012 European Championships is a massive honor, so Poland has got to not just bring the best of Europe to their country but it has to show that Poland deserves a place amongst the best countries on the continent.

Smuda's best achievement was winning the league twice with Widzew Lodz in 1996, 1997 and qualifying for the Champions League group stage in 1996, with Wisla Krakow he won the league title in 1999 and added a cup title to his cabinet in 2009 with Lech Poznan.

But is he good enough to manage a team that is low on morale and on its way to host the European Championships in two years time? Maybe another foreign coach would have been the right solution.

It will be interesting to see if the new wave of Polish footballers can succeed where their predocessors have failed.

I believe Poland needs what I call a combination coach. Meaning that he should be very well versed in tactics, as well as rather strict in the way he directs his players. The problem with Beenhakker was that he was all about philosophy and mental preparedness, where as the Polish NT team needs someone who can push then, similar to Smuda, but has much more contemporary and efficient tactical material to offer. I wish Smuda the best, but I don't believe he has what it takes for Poland to achieve something great in Euro 2012. Unfortunately he is carved out of the same stone Piechniczek, Lato, and company is, meaning coaching tactics that are very outdated.

How many games has Smuda been in charge? You already want him to be replaced?
