GRODZISK WIELKOPOLSKI, Poland. Sept 7 (PS) — The U-21 Polish national team lost to Spain 0:1 in a match in Grodzisk Wielkopolski.

The game was a qualifier for the UEFA European Under-21 Championship where Poland occupy 4th place in Group 4.

For most of the match it seemed the game would end as a draw. However, Spain determined to score managed to put one past Poland with a clever set piece from Sergio Canales a few minutes before the final whistle.

The white and red had already lost their chance to qualify in the playoffs - the second phase of qualification. Poland currently ends it's run in 4th place, with 9 points scored from 8 games.

"It was a difficult match because we knew Poland can play at a good level. We created many chances but failed to score. I trusted the players until the last few minutes and they proved they can win." Spain's Luis Milla told UEFA.
