WARSAW, Poland. Sep 2 (SN) - Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez, star of Mexico's national team and a striker for English Premier League power Manchester United, scored in Friday's friendly in Poland.
El Tri came away with a 1-1 draw in the match.
Mexico remained undefeated in games under coach José Manuel “Chepo” de la Torre.
On the scoring play, Chicharito was at the far post to receive Guardado's corner. He settled the ball with his chest and parked his shot inside the near upright. It was his 22nd goal for Mexico.
Hernandez played only the first half in his most extensive action since the CONCACAF Gold Cup. He took a month off after the tournament, in which Mexico defeated the United States in the final. Then, while training with Man U before the MLS All-Star game, he was concussed.
Chicharito is slowing working his way back into action, with two appearances for Man U in EPL action before being called to the national team.
Paweł Brożek gave Poland the lead in the 27th minute after he was set up by Adrian Mierzejewski's precise pass.
Mexico had numerous chances to gain the lead, but Poland goalkeeper Przemyslaw Tyton turned away excellent chances. However, match reports say Poland was strong in the second half, and so-so play by Mexico forced goalkeeper Alfredo Talavera to come up with tough saves.
Despite going a man up in the 70th minute -- Poland's Ludovic Obraniak took a red card for kicking an opponent -- Mexico couldn't get the go-ahead goal.
Poland now go to Gdansk, where they will face Germany on Sept. 6.
