WARSAW, Poland. Feb 3 (PSN) - Romanian legend Gheorghe Popescu is calling out Poland head coach Waldemar Fornalik to call up Steaua Bucharest defender Łukasz Szukała.
This comes after Popescu was surprised to see the absense of Szukała in the Polish roster versus Romania on Saturday.
Popescu is a Romanian football player legend. For the Romanian national team he has 115 caps, and has played, among others for Barcelona FC and Tottenham.
The national football legend watched the Romanian league every day, where two Polish defenders compete in - Piotr Celeban (FC Vaslui) and Łukasz Szukała (Steaua Bucharest). Although for Poland's Saturday's game with Romania coach Waldemar Fornalik called up Celeban, according to Popescu the better player is Szukała.
"I speak from what I've seen this season. Celeban is good, but Vaslui does not play as well as Steaua. Szukała is looking really very good, a great deal of his game is best played especially in the air, in this respect, he is perhaps the number one in the Romanian league." the Romanian praises the Polish defender.
When Popescu was told that on the Polish national team the defensive pair Marcin Wasilewski and Damien Perquis who have problems with game time in their clubs, he without hesitation recommended Szukała.
"In this case it is necessary to take Szukała! I suspect that if he was Romanian, he would play in the national team" was how the great defender ended the conversation with Przegląd Sportowy.
