WIGAN, England. Apr 19 (PS) — Lukasz Fabianski has again became the attention of the English media. Once again, only due to his schoolboy errors from in game.
Under such circumstances Wigan Athletic was able to defeat Arsenal FC 3:2, while 'Fabian' only made it easier for his opponent to score.
The Gunners were winning 2-0 and on course to rebound from Wednesday's 2-1 defeat at Tottenham until midfielder Ben Watson scored in the 80th minute for Wigan.
Titus Bramble then equalized in the 89th following a fumble by goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski and the brittle Arsenal defense gave Charles N'Zogbia space in injury time to run across the edge of the box and hit a curling shot in at the far post.
Yet despite the blunder by Fabianski, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger refused to blame the loss on the Polish goalkeeper.
"I do not believe you can say today that we lost that game because of the keeper," Wenger told The Sun.
"There was a foul on Bacary Sagna in the run-up to the second goal. I'm not sure if the keeper was fouled."
"I do not want to blame any individual for this performance."
"I believe we were not focused, not disciplined and were caught, In football you have to stay focused for 90 minutes otherwise you run the risk of being punished."
"That is especially the case against a team with nothing to lose, fighting not to go down. You knew they would not give up, and in the end we were punished for that."
Wigan's first league win over Arsenal lifted it seven points clear of the relegation zone and left the Gunners six points behind leader Chelsea with three games to play.
