DNIPROPETROVSK, Ukraine. Aug 19 (PS) — KKS Lech Poznan caused a great surprise among Polish fans on Thursday. After a goal by Manuel Arboleda the Polish champion beat FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk 1-0 in first leg of play-off phase of the UEFA Europa League.
Jacek Zielinski's team had plenty of luck in the end of the match, when the crossbar saved the guests twice from conceding.
In the fifth minute Semir Stilic sent a free kick into the penalty box area where he found the energetic Arboleda.
The Colombian defender headed the ball with haste past the Dnipro goalkeeper to give the Poles the early lead. Lech played very well in the next first twenty minutes and did not allow their rivals to create any goal opportunities.
It was only until the second half, after Dinpro made some significant changes in the first eleven that Lech started to feel the Ukrainian pressure. Luckily, Lech goalkeeper Jasmin Buric and the net's crossbar saved the Poznan side plenty of anguish throughout the match.
After a disappointing start for FC Dnipro in the play-offs, the Ukraine side will search for a more positive result next Thursday in Poznan.
